Rhino can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS curves, surfaces, and solids with no limits on complexity, degree, or size. Rhino also supports polygon meshes and point clouds. Rhino offers:
Uninhibited free-form 3-D modeling. Tools like those found only in products costing 20 to 50 times more. Accurately model any shape you can imagine.
Rhino 4.0 is the most significant upgrade in the history of Rhino, with hundreds of new features and enhancements.
There are more than 70 new tools and enhancements including G-infinity™ blending technology for modeling curves, surfaces, solids/polysurfaces, and meshes:
Curve
- Arc - Tangent option now stores radius values.
- BlendCrv
- Now adjusts the start and end points of the blend. Trims the input curves.
- Adjusts the continuity at each end of the blend independently (between G0 and G4).
- Symmetrical option.
- Chamfer - The second chamfer distance now defaults to the first distance.
- Circle - The circle seam is placed at the second mouse pick location, rather than at 0 degrees from the first point. The AroundCurve option now requests a curve as the next pick and then constrains to that curve.
- Contour
- Supports curve objects.
- New option adds the output of each cut to an individual group.
- CreateUVCrv - Curves on a surface are also supported.
- CSec - Now works with the input curves preselected.
- DupFaceBorder - Duplicates the border of a surface in a polysurface.
- DupMeshEdge - Creates a polyline at selected naked edges or creases in unwelded meshes.
- DupMeshHoleBoundary - Creates a polyline that duplicates the boundary of a mesh hole.
- ExtractMeshEdges - Makes polylines from mesh edges.
- HandleCurve - Draws illustration-software style chained Bézier curves.
- Hyperbola - Creates a hyperbolic curve.
- Line - Normal option now optionally pays attention to trims.
- LineThroughPt - Fits a line through a set of points. The input can be any combination of points, control points, and point-cloud objects.
- Make2D - Now faster and more accurate.
- MeanCurve - Makes a curve halfway between two input curves.
- MeshOutline - Creates a polyline that is the view-based outline of the region covered by the selected meshes.
- MeshIntersect - Creates polyline at the intersection of meshes.
- OffsetCrvOnSrf - Offsets a curve on a surface, keeping the offset curve on the surface.
- OffsetNormal - Offsets a curve normal to a base surface.
- Parabola - Direction option added to Parabola Vertex.
- PolyLine - New options:
- Mode controls whether the polyline draws lines or arcs. Now allows continuous drawing swapping from line to arc.
- Helpers turns on dynamic tracking line helpers that make it easier to extend arcs with lines and draw arcs aligned with the x and y axes.
- When Mode=Arc, there are Direction and Center options.
- Section
- Supports curve objects.
- New GroupObjectsBySectionPlane option adds the output of each cut to an individual group.
- ShortPath - Makes a curve that is the shortest path between two points on a surface.
- TextObject - Now supports single-stroke fonts.
Surface
- BlendSrf -
- Adjusts continuity at each edge individually(between G0 and G4).
- Symmetrically adjusts blend.
- Add cross sections.
- Move and rotate individual cross sections.
- New AutoChain and ChainContinuity settings for selecting the edges. The AutoChain option automatically selects all connected edge segments.
- ChamferSrf - It is now possible to type a single number to set the first chamfer distance. Rhino then automatically asks for the second distance and uses the first distance as the default.
- ExtrudeCrv -
- Three new commands, added:
- ExtrudeCrvAlongCrv
- ExtrudeCrvTapered
- ExtrudeCrvToPoint
- Fin - Extrudes a curve on a surface normal to the surface.
- Loft - New Align curves option to help swap ends when a bowtie loft is created.
- NetworkSrf - Preview added.
- Ribbon - New BothSides option.
- Sweep1 -
- New AutoChain and ChainContinuity settings for selecting the rail. The AutoChain option automatically selects all connected curves.
- New option to make untrimmed mitered corners if the rail has kinks.
- Sweep2 -
- Add more cross sections to control how the surface is created between cross sections.
- New AutoChain and ChainContinuity settings for selecting the rails. The AutoChain option automatically selects all connected curves.
- New Simple option lets you create two-rail sweep surfaces using exact input.
- VariableBlendSrf - Variable blend between surfaces.
- VariableChamferSrf - Variable chamfer between surfaces.
- VariableFilletSrf - Variable fillet between surfaces.
- VariableOffsetSrf - Offset a surface with various distances between the offset corners.
Solids/Polysurface
- BlendEdge - Allows variable edge blending of multiple edges. Supports three rail types: Rolling ball, Distance from Edge, and Distance between Rails.
- Boss - Creates an extruded area.
- Box - New Diagonal option.
- ChamferEdge - Allows variable edge chamfering of multiple edges. Supports three rail types: Rolling ball, Distance from Edge, and Distance between Rails.
- Cone - With the 2Point and 3Point options, the base location is now fixed by the placement of the base circle. New DirectionConstraint options: None, Vertical, and AroundCurve.
- CreateSolid - Select surfaces and polysurfaces that bound a region in space. A closed polysurface that is the boundary of the region is created.
- Cylinder - New DirectionConstraint options: None, Vertical, and AroundCurve.
- ExtrudeSrf - Now supports polysurface subobjects.
- FilletEdge - Allows variable edge filleting of multiple edges. Supports three rail types: Rolling ball, Distance from Edge, and Distance between Rails.
- Pipe -
- New AutoChain and ChainContinuity settings for selecting the rail. The AutoChain option automatically selects all connected curves.
- Allows additional radii.
- Makes simpler surfaces when using the Global ShapeBlending option.
- New option to close ends with hemispheres.
- Pyramid - Creates a solid pyramid.
- Rib - Creates rib geometry by offsetting a curve and extruding it toward a boundary. The rib can be described in either plan or elevation.
- Slab - Offsets a curve, extrudes and caps the result to create a solid.
- TCone - New DirectionConstraint options: None, Vertical and AroundCurve.
- Tube - New DirectionConstraint options: None, Vertical and AroundCurve.
